However you might describe it, I've been working freelance in the media industry since December 2018. My first job was for The Times, writing 'Beyond Giley', an online riposte to the Notebook column written by Giles Coren. This was an attempt to showcase how views on a certain topic may differ with a change in generation and background. Over time the column evolved and has now become my own personal Notebook which is regularly published online in The Times Comment section . 

Since the 'Beyond Giley' days, my opinion writing has grown. I'm particularly interested in writing about issues surrounding Islam and the Middle East. Being half-Turkish and Muslim means I have a unique insight into these areas which I believe to be particularly valuable. After all, the ability to draw on personal experience can enhance any op-ed greatly. 

But it's not all just my opinion. I have broadened my specialisms considerably and now also thoroughly enjoy writing history news articles as well as interviews, features and personal pieces. These have been published in numerous national newspapers and magazines, including The Times, The Guardian, The Times 2, The Sunday Times Magazine, The Independent, Middle East Eye, Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine and more.

Alongside my journalism, I also work as a radio contributor. As such, I have appeared numerous times on Times Radio in many contexts, from analysing current affairs as a panellist to discussing cultural matters. To find out about the shows I've appeared on, visit the Radio page.

I have recently completed a large project with GIZ Turkey, a German-government funded organisation working on the response to the refugee crisis in Turkey.
